Bountiful Harvest

This Is Just To Say

by William Carlos Williams

I have eaten
the plums
that were in
the icebox

and which
you were probably
saving
for breakfast

Forgive me
they were delicious
so sweet
and so cold

This Is Just To Say (II)

Hey, have all you want.
Sweeter than anything
you can buy in the store,
and best when eaten right off the tree.

Take some to work,
give some to the neighbors.
So soon over
sweet summertime.

Your plums look scrumptious! When I was a child we had a plum tree in our yard which produced loads of delicious plums. I liked to eat them golden, before hey were fully ripe. No store sold plums so tasty! I wish I had that plum tree now. It was lush and healthy, and my parents never fertilized or sprayed it.

Nice. William Carlos Williams said his wife wrote a response to his note that was better than his original note but that he lost it.

What a charming post, TM! Yummy plums, almost too beautiful to eat, what a color! I can imagine the warm juice dripping down the sides of one's mouth and chin. Mmmm.

I'm jealous! We just planted a plum tree this year so I've got nothing.
Those plums look delish! For some reason the fruits trees this year in my garden are looking fab and also producing a record number of fruits. El Nino?
I can't wait for our plums to start ramping up. We sold our last house just as the plums and apricots went crazy! I have to say though, from experience, your plum chutney is awesome! Once our plum trees recover from deer-pruning, I might have to nag you for the recipe.
Icebox plums? No, give me some warm and fragrant off the tree! Our spring rains did a number on the plum flowers this years. I was sulking because I saw no fruit at all on the new little tree. Then over the weekend I looked at it from a different angle and saw a small handful, maybe three. They'll be a wonderful treat soon.
