Rain Stops Play

The Country Mouse home is currently experiencing technical difficulties due to the storm that has been lashing the Bay Area and Central Coast. (I'm at work and doing this quick post during lunch.)

No power. No power means no running water either. No phone. No Internet!! This is day 2.
Also no tree where there used to be one, on our property next to the road. So sad. We had to chop up this lovely little coast live oak tree, so parents could try to get their children to school. Turns out there was another, larger tree down closer to the school. Bet the kids were glad!

My dad is at home snug in his cottage with a propane heater and camping stove (and windows cracked open to ensure healthy air!). We are going to install proper propane heating so we can have heat during power outages.

No mud slides, though, where we cleared. The old chaparral shrub roots are holding the soil. So - that's good!

More when we are back on line....

Oh dear! I'm sure you'll be reading this after the storm is over, but best of luck getting through it! And I guess it's a great time to catch up on reading and hot chocolate drinking!

Not quite as bad as you, since we still have power, but our roof is leaking and our basement is a little wet around the edges. This series of storms is something else. Here's to hoping you soon have power and are staying warm and dry.

Sad about the tree. But when the weather is kind, you will have a lovely chunk of land to plant with chaparral natives.
Sorry to hear about the power outages and botanical downings. It's been a dusie (sp?) of a storm down here too. You thing it's all done with sunny skies and in rolls another squall with intense wind and hail. So far our power losses have been transient and I've only had to reset an alarm clock a couple times. We did have quite a few downed eucalyptus at work, and our architecturally significant building that I work in leaked, oozed and almost flooded.
Typo, sorry, hail = hale, but I'm sure you know that...
No, sorry, it's late. I was right the first time around. Hail, hale, now back to hail...

As long as you're hale and hearty, that's all that matters, James - BTW we too had hail yesterday, briefly. I was scurrying around redisposing my seedlings, and other things that can withstand heavy rain - but not hail for gosh sakes! (Oh great greenhouse may ye soon be built.) When I went to check on the cold frame - lo! A bunch of the Dicentra formosa stolon cuttings are sprouting - half a dozen! And I had pretty much given up on those! I put them in months ago - you just never know.
