Between the photos of Tassajara and the inspiring post about Lester Rowntree by Country Mouse, I'm sure that even those who still have the usual lawn & junipers landscaping are getting inspired.
Here are two suggestions for getting started:
THIS CLASS HAS BEEN CANCELLED DUE TO ILLNESS IN THE FAMILY.
Class: Easy Steps to Convert Your Lawn to a Water-wise and Beautiful Place
Saturday, June 27, 1:30-4pm
Unitarian Universalist Chirch, Fireside Room, 505 E. Charleston Road, Palo Alto
Taught by Radhika Thekkath (who contributed the photo to this post). Cost $45. See her beautiful Website to sign up.
BUT YOU CAN STILL ENJOY THE WEB SITE....
Website: Blue Planet Gardening
Susan, who was previously known as Garden Chick (of Garden Chick's Design Tips fame) prepared this site explicitly for the beginning to intermediate gardener. Lots of good advice about designing, installing, and maintaining sustainable, yet beautiful gardens. Lots of pictures. Links to great books.
Of course we are also flattered that Garden Chick --eeh Susan -- asked us whether she could use one of the posts from our blog. Of course! We're thrilled! It's the Mythbuster article in her section on California Natives, which has several fun posts. What a great idea!
Sooo, for all the lurkers who enjoy our blog (and live in California), no more excuses! This is the time to plan, and here are some tools. I'm actually planning to convert an area that I misguidedly planted with edible currents this fall. We don't have enough chill hours here in CA, and I can do something more fun with the space. Sooo, follow my lead, plan and design now and install in October. Now let me go over to that site for some ideas.
